"The Engineer's Apprentice" by J. R. Martin

I read "The Engineer's Apprentice", a steampunk adventure full of mystery, magic, adventure and action, written by science fiction author J.R. Martin. Here is a brief review.

A talented steam engineer Annie Sakdavong dreams of breaking free from the shackles of the past, but her search for a mentor is nearly impossible. Along the way, she comes across another Igbo engineer Issa Obasi who has visionary ideas for combining magic with steampunk technology. They begin a partnership to reshape the world. But their alliance is shattered when a mysterious Native American capable of walking through walls intrudes on their lab. And the two engineers, Annie and Issa, are thrust into a dangerous journey into western native land - a region where danger lurks in every shadow.

As the danger mounts and the death toll rises, they are drawn deeper and deeper into a web of conspiracy.  Pursued by their enemies, can they rise up to the forces arrayed against them and forge a new future, or will their ambitions be crushed by a world unwilling to change? You'll have to read the novel for yourself to find out.
